Before, during, after.
Stairwell and foyer already painted, living and dining rooms to go. The dining room had been painted a fairly bright yellow - too bright, it needed to be toned down and a woolly-rolled faux finish seemed the best solution.
And here is the lovely and talented Lisa (no, this does not make your butt look too big; it's the overalls) applying the finish.
As always, looks better in real life because I don't usually take great photos.
I also painted some trim around the front of the house. One of the pillars was entirely filled with a beehive; bees were swarming in and out of a knot hole. Really, it was rather mean, but the homeowner sprayed into the hole and then caulked it closed. Poor bees. :( But it was right next to the front door and they are having a wedding here soon, won't do to have bees swarming around the festivities!
Have a marvy labor day weekend everyone, I'm not touching a paintbrush today!

You mean - "As always, looks better in real life because IT'S DAMN HARD TO TAKE GLAMOROUS INTERIOR PHOTOS WITH A STANDARD ISSUE CAMERA."
I'm pretty sure the pretty photos in the magazines are all shot with special lenses attached to incredibly expensive cameras.
Ok, now we are getting to the fancy stuff. I need to add depth to the yellow as well---but I have miles of walls over that dining room.
i think my favorite finish was one i saw in a house in sante fe..it was a creamy white with bees wax finish and it was terrific..was in carol burnettes house in sante fe..bet it cost an arm and a leg..
Jenn - good point, and my camera is two years old and therefore an out of date dinosaur.
Tabor - wish I lived close to you! If you want to try it yourself, many of the finishes are really easy and paint/big box stores have free workshops.
Otherwise, don't go through a decorator (most likely will mark up work outrageously) and get good references. I'm shocked at how much some faux painters charge, and paying a lot is NOT a guarantee of better work!
Granny - bees wax finish? Awesome! I've used that on furniture, never even thought of it being a wall finish.
